Corking & Bottle Opening
  • Always use best quality corks if the wine is being kept longer than 3 months. Sometimes when cheap corks are used, wine can seep through the bottles when stacked.
  • Apart from sparkling wines, no wine should be gassy. Bottling before the end of fermentation is likely to cause popping corks.   Adding too much sugar above the needs to sweeten the wines can also cause a secondary refermentation.
This can be allowed to carry on or terminated by adding Campden and Potassium Sorbate before bottling.
